Contractor - Rural Stone

The clients, newly empty nesters requested a garden to compliment the bespoke house by Philip Stejskal Architects.  Situated on the corner of a popular cafe strip, the clients enjoyed observing the social activity though wished for some level of privacy.

The brief was simple and sensible - low maintenance nativesplantings, a vegetable patch and a fire place.

The house was sunken within the site, so retaining is managed by hewn natural Donnybrook sandstone boulders. Sandstone pavings with distinct natural/sawn edges allow for a appreciation of the randomness of the stones’ material integrity, while serving to ground the sophisticated architecture into the earth.

A fringing Eucalyputs victrix grove will reach upward to create a veiled screen to the tree.
