State Mortuary WA Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital
Contractor - Plan E Landscape Architects
2013
Surrounded by tall buildings on two sides, the newly built State Mortuary is a place where few are happy to visit. The landscape surrounding the mortuary are some of the few quiet spaces left where visitors can take themselves to for a quiet place to mourn, grieve and rest.

The garden regards the cultural practices of Aboriginal groups who may need  to perform smoking ceremonies with a dedicated area for that.  Mass plantings of Eucalyptus caesias create a dreamscape of weeping white canopies while Kimberley sandstone pavings guide people through to with Toodyay stone boulders used as natural water features and sculptural elements.

Artworks by local Aboriginal artist are incorporated into screens and illuminated bollards integrated comfortably into the landscape.
